A green card is an essential document which serves as an official record of ownership and transaction of a specific parcel of land maintained at the Ministry of Land under section 7 and 8 of the Land Registration Act No. 3 of 2012. Once the green card is lost then it needs to be reconstructed by the Ministry of Lands upon application.

Key components
1. Report the loss to the Land Registrar.
2. Obtain a Police Abstract from the nearest Police station.
3. Swear an Affidavit explaining the ownership of the property and the circumstances in which the title was lost.
4. Apply for a Public Notice in Newspaper either Daily Nation or Standard.
5. Submit a formal request to the Land Registrar for Reconstruction by attaching the following documents:
• Police abstract.
• Sworn affidavit
• Newspaper notice
• Ownership documents
6. Investigation and Verification by the Registry.
7. Reconstruction of the Green Card.

Purpose:
1. Restores registry records hence maintaining accurate and legal documentation of interests of lands for certain land parcels under the land registration act 2012.
2. Reduces the issue land fraud and other illegal transactions such as double registration at the Ministry of lands.
3. Ensures the legal recognition of land ownership through reconstruction hence restoring land transactions.
4. Supports the land disputes and litigation since it acts as prima facie evidence in court.
5. Reduces bureaucracies since the reconstruction is secure and safeguards the land rights for current and future generations.
